Interesting, thanks Pedros.
I wonder, Is it stacked by importance as in Maslow's pyramid or just put together to show the important parts all together.
pedros
Yes, the most important parts are lower in the pyramid. Physical activity, especially meditation has a long range effect on brain and whole organism, including neurogenesis, emotion, concentration, empathy, longterm & working memory and general intelligence. Reading has a few less good effects, increase general knowledge, verbal and emotional intelligence. And the effect of video game playing is relativelly small compare to reading, especially in foreign language.

Right, I was just not sure about the food.
But probably playing musical instruments and reading a book are more effective as involve the brain directly in the process while good nutrition only creates preconditions to a better brain functioning.

But the reality is less cut-and-dry. Some individuals are genetically predisposed to weight gain. One study found that epigenetic factors even play a role. For some, weight loss may become an endless struggle – a Sisyphean task.

I think that playing an instrument and reading can help my ability to speak well and think clearly. I'm sort of playing with the idea of jazz improv helping coding ability. A good night's sleep is worth its weight in gold. A positive attitude. Joy about life. I think these can all help your IQ. Maybe.
