I have been very irregular with dnb training and meditations . Although i started last year with a good score in dual 3 back I havnt gained too much progress till now. Now it is usually n=5 for fresh hours of the days .
Actually I have been following some mnemonics to do it until today when i realized that it is not the proper way to do these exercises. Can any body guide me with proper instructions to perfectly do the dnb exercises ?
I know i can find the instructions on the instruction page but a detailed plan and procedures from any person who has benefitted from doing dnbs would be highly appreciated . :)

Do it with as little help from mnemonics and techniques as possible. I do the splitting technique, so eh, its not perfect.

I'd like a better approach to dnb too. Currently I've plateaued at level 5 occasionally reaching level 6 .
Maybe try consuming vast amounts of fish oil so your brain can adapt faster.

I'm using dual n-back on a regular basis from a few weeks. However, I read a lot of different opinions on how to correctly play this game in order to improve my brain. I know, "my brain" sounds a little bit vague, but I think that maybe the different techniques used improve different areas of the brain.
Btw, the main areas in which Dual N-back should be involved (and the ones that I'd like to improve) should be:
- Increase IQ (fluid intelligence).
- Improve short term/working memory.
- Improved selective attention and focus
So, how can I have benefits in this fields while playing the game? Which kind of techniques are allowed? I've been using chunking and I reached the 5 level in a few days, but then I read that maybe it isn't a so useful technique to improve. So I switched to something called "rehearsal", and even a subconscious approach, but until then I'm struggling at level 3 and 4.
It's still questionable that NBack is improving IQ.
From my own experience, chunking won't hurt training working / short term memory.
I tried subconscious approach, but couldn't see how It can help increase any of these areas.
Attention and focus are the items I'm still trying to get better in. So far only meditation seems to be a way to improve that. Still can't find time / will power to do it regular enough to see the results.
I don't know if I can post external links, but indeed some online sources claim that rehearsal is the only way to extend the benefits of dual back to general life, while other techniques like chunking aren't useful at all. However, I don't know if it's true.
I'm experimenting with meditation as well, but also with other brain games and techniques to avoid distractions and improve focus, attention, concentration and willpower. I've seen a lot of improvements, but I don't know if they can be attributed to a single task or at all these things as a whole.
Last year (2014), Jacky et al. provide nice meta-analysis of about twenty published studies of DNB training and IQ gaining. That big analysis provide stronger evidence, that DNB has on average small, but significant positive effect on Gf. As far as we know, any other video game or similar intervention has similar effect. More - strong evidence suggest, that complex brain training provide on the internet are ineffective, and only DNB works enhancing IQ.
Try train with fresh mind (in the morning?), after short meditation session, don't afraid of struggle. Be motivated.

Well, indeed I have no to little problem to advance to higher levels even using a simple technique such as chunking. The main concern is that, using this or other techniques, it doesn't lead to improvement. What do you think about it?
Also, and sorry for the OT, do you know any external sources that I can look on to improve meditation?
Every technique that makes Your training easier, also makes it less efficient. If DNB really increase IQ, it's because it is a very hard. Rehearsal does not impair training, so You may do it, if You like. However other type of strategies especially chunking but also attention jumping or other playing odds are not recommended.

Please, can you explain what means chunking and attention jumping in DNB? I am brasilian, then i dont understand english slangs.
